Not book reviews from me – I’ve hated them since I was a child! These are just ones I’d recommend because I’ve read them (or am about to) and think they’re worthwhile. The links lead out to either (in order of my preference) – a personal author’s web page, GoodReads review page (people who like giving book reports!). or an independent bookshop page.
- Mirage Men / Mark Pilkington – I make no judgement about the accuracy of the book or the reliability of the author and his colleagues – I only point out that accusations made of his being on the MI5 payroll are mentioned openly in the book, however the way they are addressed manages to neither confirm or definitely deny them. Even so, it’s an object lesson in filtering dis-, and mis-information from the worthwhile. A history of many years of UFO bullsh*t in sad, vaguely frustrating detail, but important to understand the genre.
- UFOs Psychic Close Encounters / Albert Budden – A detailed exploration of the effects of electro-magnetic emissions and radiation on perception and cognition. Obscure and a little hard to find, but one of the better scientific approaches to UFO phenomenon – try AbeBooks.
- Bigfoot! / Loren Colman – A good general introduction, and fairly in-depth look at the Bigfoot / Sasquatch phenomenon. Loren Coleman is one of the foremost cryptozoologists and has had a long career and history steeped in the subject.
- Weaponising Anti-Semitism – Asa Winstanley – why is this here? A book about the political assassination of Jeremy Corbyn? Mainly, to emphasise that the techniques used to discredit decent, worthy people and their activities are widespread throughout Western media, and go a long way to maintaining basic inequality and mental conservatism. Tools which are used to discredit and undermine across a wide spectrum of interests.
- The Assault On Truth – Peter Oborne – again, nothing to do with the weird and the wonderful, so why is it here? Because an understanding of how plain, simple lying has become part of day-today politics and media coverage is important to comprehend. If it is this bad in the open, in the mainstream, in plain view, how much more obfuscated and obscured in the subjects well off the beaten track?
